NRS465 Applied Evidence-Based Project and Practicum
Week 7 Discussion
DQ 1 In order to evaluate an evidence-based practice project, it is important to be able to determine the effectiveness of your change. Based on faculty feedback from your Topic 5 implementation plan, make updates to your objectives and outcomes. List one objective and its associated outcome. How will you be able to evaluate whether or not this outcome was met? Discuss how using this process of evaluation will allow you to evaluate whether your project made a difference in practice.
Initial discussion question posts should be a minimum of 200 words and include at least two references cited using APA format. Responses to peers or faculty should be 100-150 words and include one reference. Refer to “RN-BSN DQ Rubric” and “RN-BSN Participation Rubric,” located in Class Resources, to understand the expectations for initial discussion question posts and participation posts, respectively.
DQ 2 Look ahead at the Topic 8 Benchmark – Capstone Project Change Proposal assignment. What additional information do you need to complete your capstone project paper in Topic 8? Describe your plan to obtain it. Identify one area of the Topic 8 assignment that you will need to review and potentially revise. Discuss the aspects that you might want additional feedback on from your peers and post it here. In responses to your peers, provide feedback on areas classmates identified in their initial DQ response and suggest ways to improve or additional considerations to take into account.

Here’s a response for each discussion question for Week 7:
DQ 1: Evaluating the Effectiveness of EBP Project Objectives and Outcomes
Objective: Increase hand hygiene compliance among nursing staff from 70% to 90% within three months of implementing the hand hygiene intervention.
Associated Outcome: By the end of the three-month period, the overall hand hygiene compliance rate among nursing staff will be at least 90%, as measured by direct observation and electronic monitoring systems.
Evaluation Process: To evaluate whether this outcome was met, compliance data will be collected through both direct observations conducted by trained observers and electronic monitoring systems that record hand hygiene events. Baseline compliance rates will be compared to rates at one-month and three-month intervals after the intervention. A statistical analysis, such as a paired t-test, will be used to determine if the increase in compliance is statistically significant.
This evaluation process is critical as it allows for a clear and measurable assessment of the intervention’s impact on hand hygiene practices. By setting specific, quantifiable goals and regularly assessing progress, we can determine whether the implemented changes are producing the desired effects in practice. If compliance does not meet the target, the evaluation process will also highlight areas needing improvement, allowing for timely modifications to the intervention. This iterative approach ensures that the EBP project continuously evolves based on real-world outcomes, ultimately leading to improved patient safety and care quality.

DQ 2: Preparing for the Capstone Project Change Proposal
For the Topic 8 Benchmark Capstone Project Change Proposal, additional information needed includes more specific data on the resources required for the full implementation of the hand hygiene intervention, including costs and personnel time. I will need to gather detailed information on potential barriers to implementation, such as staff resistance or technical challenges with electronic monitoring systems. This information will be obtained through further discussions with my preceptor, reviewing relevant organizational policies, and consulting with stakeholders involved in the project.
Plan to Obtain Information: I plan to conduct interviews with key stakeholders, including nursing staff, infection control specialists, and IT personnel, to gain a comprehensive understanding of the resources and support needed for successful implementation. Additionally, I will review the organization’s budget reports and previous quality improvement projects for insights into cost management and resource allocation.
Area for Review and Revision: One area that I anticipate needing to review and potentially revise is the evaluation section of my capstone project. Specifically, I want to ensure that the chosen evaluation methods accurately measure the effectiveness of the intervention and provide actionable insights for further improvements. I will seek feedback on whether the evaluation criteria are robust enough to capture the project’s impact and if alternative evaluation strategies should be considered.
Aspects for Peer Feedback: I would appreciate feedback from peers on the clarity and feasibility of my evaluation plan, particularly the data collection methods and the use of statistical analysis to interpret results. Suggestions on making the evaluation process more rigorous or user-friendly would be valuable, as would advice on overcoming potential barriers identified during the implementation phase.
