DQ 1 Stakeholder support is necessary for a successful project implementation. Consider your internal stakeholders, such as the facility, unit, or health care setting where the change proposal is being considered, and your external stakeholders, like an individual or group outside the health care setting. Based on your assessment, identify two internal and two external stakeholders. Why is their support necessary to the success of your change proposal? Identify one unique strength (as a person/nurse) that would help you secure support from stakeholders in order to develop effective interprofessional relationships.

DQ 1: Stakeholder Support for Successful Project Implementation

Stakeholder support is essential for the successful implementation of any change proposal in healthcare settings. Internal stakeholders are individuals or groups within the organization directly affected by or involved in the project, while external stakeholders are those outside the organization who have an interest in the outcomes. For my change proposal on improving patient safety through enhanced hand hygiene practices, two internal stakeholders are the nursing staff and the infection control team. The nursing staff are pivotal because they are directly responsible for executing hand hygiene protocols, and their compliance is critical to the project’s success. The infection control team is also vital as they provide the expertise, guidance, and monitoring necessary to ensure the adherence to evidence-based practices.

Two external stakeholders include public health agencies and patient advocacy groups. Public health agencies, such as the local health department, can offer support through guidelines, resources, and data on infection rates, which can bolster the project’s rationale and provide benchmarks for success. Patient advocacy groups are essential as they represent the voice of patients, advocating for safer care environments, and can help garner public support and awareness for the initiative.

The support of these stakeholders is crucial because it ensures that the project is not only aligned with organizational goals but also meets external expectations and standards, ultimately enhancing its credibility and sustainability (Munn et al., 2019). Engaging these stakeholders early in the process facilitates buy-in, resource allocation, and smooth implementation.

One unique strength that would help me secure stakeholder support is my ability to communicate effectively and build relationships. As a nurse, I am accustomed to working collaboratively within interprofessional teams and understand the importance of clear communication in achieving shared goals. This skill will help me articulate the benefits of the change proposal, address concerns, and foster strong interprofessional relationships that are conducive to successful project outcomes.

DQ 2: Technology in Project Implementation

Technology plays a critical role in the implementation and success of evidence-based projects. Two information/communication technologies that could improve the implementation process and outcomes of my capstone project on enhancing hand hygiene practices are electronic health records (EHRs) and mobile health (mHealth) applications.

EHRs can be leveraged to integrate reminders for hand hygiene within the clinical workflow, thus enhancing compliance by prompting healthcare workers at the point of care. EHRs can also be used to track compliance rates, generate reports, and provide feedback to staff, making it easier to monitor progress and identify areas for improvement (Khairat et al., 2018). Additionally, data from EHRs can be used to correlate hand hygiene compliance with infection rates, providing evidence of the intervention’s effectiveness.

mHealth applications, such as mobile apps designed to remind and educate staff about hand hygiene, can also be beneficial. These apps can provide real-time feedback, educational resources, and alert staff to missed opportunities for hand hygiene. For example, apps that use QR codes at hand hygiene stations can track when healthcare workers sanitize their hands, providing both accountability and data for compliance tracking.

A potential barrier to using these technologies is resistance from staff who may be uncomfortable with new systems or perceive them as time-consuming. To mitigate this, it’s important to provide adequate training and support, highlight the benefits of the technology in improving patient outcomes, and involve staff in the planning and implementation process to foster buy-in and reduce resistance.
